CARE TO DANCE 2007
Calling all youths to touch lives through the joy of dance!
How many ways can you say you care? Care to Dance 2007 invites youths to reach out to the less fortunate through dance. Organised by YMCA of Singapore and presented by Lindy Hop Ensemble (LHE), this popular youth dance-outreach initiative is into its third year of touching lives through dance. Held on 2, 21 and 28 July 2007, Care to Dance uses vibrant dance forms from the east and west to engage youths to reach out to 250 children and youth beneficiaries from Pertapis Orphanage, Chinese Development Assistance Council, Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled and YMCA Student Care Centres.
This project, organised by youth and for youth, is offered free-of-charge to members of the public in celebration of SHINE, a youth festival supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports and the National Youth Council.
In Care to Dance 2007, youth volunteers will be introduced to an exciting range of dances, all in one day, including the energetic Lindy Hop, the Bombay Boogie – a mesh of classical and modern Indian dance styles set to catchy music - as well as hip-hop. Youths will play the role of learning facilitators and share the rhythm with children from underprivileged backgrounds and intellectually disabled youths. Expect a fun-filled time of interaction, funky dance moves and plenty of laughter all-round!
Registration is free of charge and open to all youths aged 15-35 years. Put on your dancing shoes, sign up as a volunteer and make a difference in someone’s life!
